Tibetan Medicine explains that our bodies are composed of thousands of channels, ranging from the gross (surface) to the subtle (deep). To achieve a balanced and healthy body and mind, the channels must be open and clear.
It is easy to understand the importance of the physical channels, such as those through which blood and lymph flow. The other channels are less familiar, but equally important. These subtle body channels are the realm of Tantrayana Buddhism. The Buddhist texts clearly outline their fetal development, mature structure and composition. The refinement of the subtle body is also a path to enlightenment.
In this teaching, Tulku Lobsang will discuss the subtle body channels, their function, the effects of blockages, and techniques for opening the channels. Participants will also have an opportunity to explore some methods, using body movement and breathing exercises. This includes: Tsa Lung (breathwork), Lu Jong (opening the spine), Gang Gyok (Tibetan running technique) and/or Tog Chod (Wisdom sword).
Upon completion of this course you will be able to:
• Clearly understand what the subtle body is, its three components and main pathways in the body.
• Recognize the interrelationship between the quality and openness of the subtle body channels and the quality of our mental functioning.
• Identify the factors that damage the subtle body, leading to an increase in blockages and decrease in general health.
• Explore! Through both direct experience and demonstration several Tantrayana Buddhist methods for opening the subtle body and improving the clarity of the mind.
• Receive an effective practice combining some of these methods that can be continued at home, thereby experiencing their benefits over time.
