About me
My name is Tati McDermott, and Lu Jong found me at a moment when my body needed a gentler way of living. These Tibetan movements — simple shapes guided by breath — helped me soften tension, deepen presence, and feel calm as something real and physical.
Lu Jong is an ancient yogic practice that works through the body’s network of 72,000 subtle channels, using slow, intentional movement to balance the elements and steady the winds that shape our emotional and mental landscape. Its benefits are quiet but unmistakable: easier joints, more constant energy, better sleep, less stress, and a mind that settles more quickly.
My understanding of this practice has been shaped through direct lineage. I am certified in Lu Jong I and the Five Elements under Tulku Lobsang Rinpoche, founder of Nangten Menlang International in Vienna, Austria, and Doctor of Tibetan Medicine. I continue to study under H.E. Khangser Rinpoche, whose free worldwide Dharma classes reflect his commitment to making Buddhist teachings accessible to all.
Before teaching, I spent many years in public service, education, and leadership. I hold a master’s degree in Public Administration and a bachelor’s in Sociology and Spanish Literature. I became a Reiki Master in 2014 and later studied Analytical Kabbalah in Spain and Mexico. These lineages inform the way I hold space: simple, intentional, and deeply respectful of the nervous system.
I teach Lu Jong through Zen & Tonic, the studio I founded as a sanctuary for women who have carried too much for too long — a quiet space to exhale, unwind, and return to the rhythm beneath the noise.
I retired in 2023, and I now split my time between Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende with my husband and our dogs. We have a wonderful blended family and a luminous granddaughter who keep life grounded in joy and meaning,
