Bodhicitta. It is the foundation of all Buddhist paths, including Vajrayana. It is the fundamental practice—the aspiration to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings. It is the ultimate wish to help liberate other beings from suffering, to be a Bodhisattva.
The 8th century Indian Buddhist master Shantideva believed that developing Bodhicitta is the best way to help other beings. Shantideva's Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life (Bodhicharyavatara) is the essential text on compassion. It is a clear, simple, elegant guide to the awakening mind of Bodhicitta and the practice of the Bodhisattva. This classic work of Tibetan Buddhism offers a wisdom that inspires us to live differently. It shows us how to awaken our Buddha nature and to put it into daily practice. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama has said of it, "If I have any understanding of compassion and the practice of the bodhisattva path, it is entirely on the basis of this text that I possess it.”
In this 6-day Retreat, Tulku Lobsang Rinpoche will lead students through an exploration of Shantideva's fundamental text. Shantideva begins by explaining the awakening mind of Bodhicitta and how to generate it. He then details the practices and methods for preserving that Bodhicitta. Finally, Shantideva instructs how to strengthen and grow our Bodhicitta to even higher levels.
This Retreat will include study of the text and meditation practices.
